Danny Chan receives the 2026 UCEAP Global Impact and Excellence Award
The University of California Education Abroad Program (UCEAP) and the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) are celebrating 60 years of partnership. The recent APAIE 2026 Conference and Exhibition served as an ideal venue for this significant milestone.
Since the first exchange in 1965, over 2,100 students have journeyed across the Pacific, returning with new perspectives, lasting friendships, and fresh directions in their lives. Many alumni reflect on how their time abroad has profoundly shaped them, highlighting the personal growth that comes from navigating daily life in a different culture.
The program's lasting impact is exemplified by Mr. Danny Chan, one of its earliest participants. In 1968, after graduating from CUHK’s United College, he traveled to the US, earned an MSc at the University of California, Los Angeles, and built a successful career in banking. He later co-founded the renowned Yangshuo Sugar House Hotel, which continues to honor his international roots by hosting alumni gatherings.
UCEAP is proud to honor Danny with the 2026 UCEAP Global Impact and Excellence Award. We look forward to another 60 years of partnership, offering opportunities for professional and personal growth, cultural exchange, academic development, and more.
